The Journal of African Elections utilises Scholastica, an online platform for managing submissions and peer reviews.

How to submit your material to the JAE:

Step 1

Click the "Submit Here" button below which takes you to the JAE Scholastica submission platform.

Step 2

On the Scholastica platform click on "Submit Manuscript" and create a free Scholastica account or log in if you already have one.

Step 3

On the Scholastica platform follow the on-screen instructions to complete your submission.

Visit https://app.scholasticahq.com/users/sign_up and complete the registration form. After verifying your email, you’ll gain access to your dashboard to manage submissions.

Access the JAE journal site, click “Submit a Manuscript.” Review the submission guidelines, and follow the step-by-step form to upload your manuscript.

Scholastica accepts manuscript submissions in .docx and .pdf formats. Additional files, such as cover letters or data sets, may also be uploaded. However, the JAE prefers submissions to be in Word format (e.g., .docx).

Yes, you can save your progress at any stage. Navigate to “My Manuscripts” to resume or delete drafts.

In the “Authors” section of the submission form, click “Add Author” to input each co-author’s details. You can rearrange the order by dragging and dropping names as needed.

Only the submitting author has direct access to the submission on Scholastica. Co-authors will be listed in the metadata but won’t have individual access unless they are also registered users.

Once submitted, you cannot directly edit the manuscript. However, you can send updated files or messages to the journal editors using the “Discussions” feature in your submission dashboard.

To withdraw, go to “My Manuscripts,” select the submission, click “Manage Submission,” then choose “Withdraw Manuscript.” Confirm the action when prompted.
