Description of event/ Programme:
EISA’s office in Angola was focused on supporting electoral stakeholders including community and social organisations, political parties and the National Electoral Commission.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal of the project was to support the electoral process in Angola through building the capacity of stakeholders

Description of event/ Programme:
EISA’s office in Burundi was opened following a fact-finding mission where it was concluded that EISA could assist the Independent Electoral Commission and other stakeholders to execute its mandate to deliver free, fair, and legitimate elections. In the second iteration of the field office, the scope of work was expanded to include conflict management.
Duration: Four years, first in 2004 to 2005, again in 2009 to 2010.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal of the project was to ensure credible elections by providing technical assistance to the IEC and building the capacity of electoral stakeholders.

Description of the Project/Programme:
The EISA CAR office was opened after EISA conducted a Needs Assessment Mission (NAM), informed by the NAM, the CAR office supported a local CSO with regards to building their capacity to observe elections, conduct Civic and Voter Education and assist officials in their ongoing efforts in electoral reform.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal was to assist CAR in its ongoing efforts towards democratisation through ensuring a strong electoral framework and by assisting local actors play a more inclusive role in the economy.

Description of the Project/Programme:
EISA’s activities in the DRC sought to enhance the capacity of governance institutions as well as to support government’s existing anti-corruption strategies. The office also sought to build the internal capacity of local Civil Society Organisations.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal of the project was to contribute to the DRC’s democratisation efforts as well as to ensure effective institutions that are free from corruption.

Description of event/ Programme:
EISA opened a short-term office in Côte d’Ivoire in July of 2008. EISA Côte d’Ivoire had the limited function of providing technical support to the Ivorian civil society represented by the organisation Convention de la Société Civile Ivoirienne (CSCI) in the area of election observation.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal was to ensure that the organisation Convention de la Société Civile Ivoirienne could effectively deploy an election observation mission to the November 2009 election.

Description of the Project/ Programme:
In the aftermath of the Arab Spring, the EISA office in Egypt deployed delegations to Tunisia and Egypt in order to ascertain how it could support political transitions in both Egypt and Tunisia. EISA subsequently opened an office in Cairo in order to support observer missions and thus contribute to the integrity of elections in Egypt and Tunisia.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal of the project was to contribute to peaceful democratisation in the North African region.

Description of the Project/Programme:
The EISA Kenya office worked to support election processes in the leadup to the 2010 Constitutional Referendum as well as the then upcoming General Elections. The office also worked to facilitate the implementation of the activities envisioned under the African Democracy Strengthening project.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal of the project was to assist Kenya in mitigating electoral violence, strengthen the electoral framework and the Legislature’s legislative ability as well as political parties’ capacity.

Description of the Project/Programme:
The EISA Liberia’s work was centered around supporting the integrity of the 2023 Liberia electoral process. This was done through the countrywide deployment of short-term, medium term and long term election observers, who supported a core staff that was lead by the country director.

Duration: 18 months from December 2022 to May 2024.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal of the project was to assist Liberia in mitigating possible electoral violence through assisting the National Election Commission in increasing the integrity of the elections

Description of the Project/ Programme:
In support of democracy building in the region, EISA opened an office in Mali that focused on strengthening the Multi-Party Liaison Committee and Election Conflict Management, the office subsequently also started supporting political parties and women empowerment, especially around the area of civic education.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal of the project was to support democratisation in Mali and ensure that citizens, especially female citizens, played an active role in their democracy.

 

Description of the Project/Programme:
The Mali office sought to facilitate the establishment of alternative mechanisms for the prevention and resolution of electoral and community conflicts, augment existing voter education campaigns and strengthen local CSOs so as to conduct electoral observation.

Duration: Eighteen months from May 2018 to December 2019.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal was to empower citizen organisations, women and other marginalised groups in order to participate in elections within an atmosphere of peace.

Description of Project/Programme:
The Mozambique office sought to support the existing electoral reform initiatives as well as to enhance partnerships between civil society and parliament in order to strengthen the promotion of knowledge and debate on elections, governance and democracy through the creation of the Documentation centre.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal was to strengthen a culture of accountability of elected bodies as well as to ensure a well-informed citizenry. The office also sought to ensure the sustainability of the democratic project through the aforementioned electoral reform.

Description of the Project/Programme:
The Supporting Transition, Stability and Democratisation in Somalia Project sought to provide technical support as well as to conduct capacity building initiatives in support of the electoral and the ongoing peace process through engaging with state and non-state actors. Furthermore, the Support Towards a Democratic, Unified and Peaceful Somalia (STAND UP SOMALIA) programme worked to ensure increased youth and female participation in the electoral process.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal was to help instil a democratic culture in Somalia through the building of strong institutions as well as through assisting the Constitutional Building process.

Description of the Project/ Programme:
After conducting a capacity building workshop, EISA opened a field office in May of 2008 that focused on conflict mapping and capacity building, the office was soon closed due to the election being postponed.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal of the project was to support conflict mitigation in Sudan, due to the postponing of the elections, the project did not fully materialise.

Description of the Project/Programme:
The EISA Zambia office was opened in 2016 with the purpose of supporting local partners in contributing to the credibility and integrity of the 2016 electoral process in Zambia.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal was to entrench stronger election dispute mechanisms in Zambia, this in light of the contested 2016 elections.

Description of the Project/Programme:
The EISA Zambia office was opened in 2016 with the purpose of supporting local partners in contributing to the credibility and integrity of the 2016 electoral process in Zambia.

Overarching Goal of the Project:
The overarching goal was to entrench stronger election dispute mechanisms in Zambia, this in light of the contested 2016 elections.

Description of the Project/Programme:
In preparation for the 2023 elections, EISA assisted the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) through the provision of technical assistance. The programme sought to achieve this through various means including assisting the ZEC with election administration, conducting civic and voter education, engaging political parties and assisting media outlets report election.

Duration: Ten years from 2011 – 2020.

The overarching goal was to incapacitate the ZEC to prepare for the 2023 elections so that they can be executed in a professional and peaceful manner.
