Malawi: Civil society actors

Civil society organisations in Malawi continue to be vocal on national political issues. Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) involved in governance and human rights groups have been active players in the electoral process. Faith-based organisations (FBOs) were also key actors in the transition from one-party state to multipartyism and continue to influence politics in Malawi. The Catholic Church has been an astute observer of political trends and active participant in the political scene (Patel et al 2007).
