In February 2004, EISA established a field office in the DRC capital, Kinshasa. EISA had been long active in the country, working with a range of role-players since 1998, establishing strong links with several CSOs and political parties. EISA consulted with the donor community in Kinshasa and with the government of the DRC, providing advice, technical suport and training in the field of election-related conflict resolution before, during and after the historic 2006 elections. The office was closed in 2011 with the completion of its mandate.
The primary objective of EISA DRC between 2004 and 2006 was to contribute to efforts toward a smooth and peaceful political transition, culminating in the holding of credible and legitimate elections in the DRC. In the 2008-2011 post election period EISA was called on to implement activities in support of deepening democracy, peace and good governance.
EISA activities are summerised in the Chronological overview. Specific areas of work embraced:
2010 & 2011 DFID GTF and Sweden (through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida)). 2011: Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).
